Professional Ice Dam Removal with Low Pressure Steam
Locally owned and operated by Michael Jurczenko, North Tech Roofing is one the most trusted roofing contractors in Ontario. Living in Northern Ontario, Ice Dams are unfortunately problematic for many homeowners. Ice Dams typically occur due to inadequate insulation, air flow, or ventilation. When the attic space is warmer than the temperature outside, or fans exhaust through the roof deck, this causes snow to melt, creating water to run down and refreeze on the eaves of your roof. Over time, this ice builds up to the point where water can't run off your roof anymore, resulting in standing water. The typical roof system (Shingles or Metal) is designed to shed water, not to have it stand and pool. When pooling water occurs, it will penetrate your roof system and enter your living space, potentially causing thousands of dollars in damages and months of inconvenience while repairs are being made. We are here to help you with the only approved method of ice dam removal.

The cost of the roof system on an average size home is in the neighbourhood of Ten Thousand dollars. Using tools such as sledgehammers, axes, and calcium chloride usually leaves homeowners with a damaged roof system and in many cases leading to early roof replacement. The following are damages that may occur:

- Loss of shingles granular (first line of defense of your shingle to UV rays).
- Cracked or broken shingles due to blunt force trauma.
- Shingles breaking off that are frozen in ice.
- Damaged roof deck.
- Dented and or punctured metal roofing.
- Dented and or punctured valleys.
- Calcium Chloride is corrosive causing granular loss, staining of shingles, and corroding of eavestroughs.

Most importantly, removal of ice dams with the above methods, most likely will void any warranty you have with the contractor that installed you roof and definitely with the shingle manufacturer.

North Tech Roofing only uses low pressure steam for removing ice dams from roofs. Our steamer was specifically design for this purpose. Gentle steam cuts through ice dam and releases the ice from shingles safely and without damaging your roof. We control the size of ice chunks removed at one time, so not to damage your property. When we are done, the problem is removed, leaving your roof like a summer day, and eaves trough running.
